The Tagert Hut is located below treeline at 11,280' in Pearl Basin, in the Elk Mountains. The hut is situated between Crested Butte, Colorado and Aspen, Colorado. The Tagert Hut sleeps six comfortably although there is a double on the first floor that would allow you to squeeze in 7. The hut is a well built A-frame and just like all other huts, is heated by a wood burning stove. The kitchen is a bit small and offers a 2 burner propane stove. It's worth noting that the Tagert Hut and other huts in the Braun system are located in areas that are known for avalanches with recurring avalanche cycles. The routes leading into the Tagert Hut are unmarked and are not maintained. These huts are only for the experienced back country traveler. The Hut is managed by the 10th Mountain Division Hut Association and all reservations should be made at huts.org
