Summit County, Colorado is home to the Ten Mile Creek. The Ten Mile Creek begins from just below the Curtain Ponds of Officer’s Gulch just east of Copper Mountain Ski Resort and empties out into Lake Dillon Reservoir in Frisco, Colorado. The Ten Mile Creek is known for its early season fun in the high country of Colorado but kayaker’s beware, at high water, the in-town bridge acts as a road block at times. You will need to scout the in-town river section before running the entire stretch.For take-outs, your best bet is to just park your vehicles at the Town of Frisco Marina. Parking at the marina is free but can fill up quickly on the weekends.
The Ten Mile Creek is solely used by Kayakers and the occasional shore line Fly-Fishermen although the Fly Fisherman tend to congregate at the Curtain Ponds to the West and at the mouth of the Ten Mile Creek in Lake Dillon. Being in Officer’s Gulch, you will be boating between the Ten Mile Mountain Range and the I-70 Corridor. To the North of I-70 you pass Wichita Peak and have some really massive views of both Ptarmigan Ridge and Buffalo Mountain. To your right (South side), You will be passing by what are known as the “Sky Chutes” along the Ten Mile Range and you will float past Peaks 1-4 and Mt. Royal in Frisco, Colorado. The Creek itself can be very tight, rocky and tricky to navigate.
