St. Elmo Overview
The St. Elmo region of Buena Vista offers a variety of terrain for intermediate to advanced Timbersled Riders. Riding areas include Chalk Creek and Sawmill Hill on Tin Cup Pass, Baldwin Creek Road, and Chalk Creek on the way up to Hancock Pass and Grizzly Creek. For beginner to intermediate snow bike tours, check out our snow bike tours on cottonwood pass
What to Expect:
We will meet at our shop in Buena Vista off South Main Street at about 8:15am to sign waivers, finalize payment and damage deposit, go over damage costs, and get fitted to helmets and other rental gear. The guides will then lead you to the trailhead as the renter follows in their own vehicle. At the trailhead the machines will be unloaded, a brief but very important safety talk with the guide will occur. The safety talk before any riding occurs will cover safe operation of the machine, avalanche dangers and how to handle the elements. Then it is time to ride!
What to Wear:
Winter Gear made for a complete day in the elements. Layered non-cotton winter, breathable, under layers with winter pants and jacket as outerwear. Gloves and goggles as well. We have boots, pants and goggles specifically designed for these activities for rent as well. DOT approved helmets are provided at no extra cost for every person renting from RMAR and they are a mandatory piece of riding gear. Safety is always priority number one!
What to Bring:
Be prepared for extreme weather and elements. Many customers like to have a backpack to carry water, sunscreen, snacks, extra gear, extra set of gloves and goggles.
